Answer:

Baker is very famous in a Goan village since they are a part of the culture and traditions of the area. Their sweets and baked goods pride them for being notable citizens. The author describes these bakers as very well respected people of the society. They are known by the name Pader of Goa. Marriage gifts are meaningless without the sweet bread known as the bol, just as a party or a feast loses its charm without bread. Cakes and bolinhas are a must for Christmas as well as other festivals. Thus the presence of the baker’s furnace in the village is absolutely essential, mainly during celebrations and occasions.

The baker became synonymous with celebrations and occasions in Goa because his baked goods were required during all the festivities.

An engagement party was incomplete without sandwiches, the bread for which was supplied by the baker. Similarly, it was essential to have ‘bol’ among the wedding gifts, while cakes and ‘bolinhas’ were enjoyed at Christmas and also during other festivals. Thus, the baker made his presence felt during all festivities.
