How did the banyan tree got its name in english from the book the world of trees?

The banyan has what are called ‘aerial

roots’, that is, its branches drop to the ground,

take root again, and send out more twisting,

trailing branches, so that after some years

the tree forms a forest-glade of its own. No

wonder the banyan was chosen to represent
