England and France are the two countries

England won the battle. the Oldman call that war was great victory because he is belonging to England ,and England won the battle .

The battle affected the old man's family a lot. His house was put on fire and his family became homeless. This shows that even after not taking part in the war , they were affected to a great extent by it .The English and the French fought against each other.The English army won the battle of Blenheim. The old man states that it was because of the Duke of Marlbro that they won the battle.
