How did the battle against French colonial education become a part of the battle against colonialism and for independence of Vietnam?

Education was perceived by the French as a medium to civilize the inhabitants. Preparation of the Vietnamese in advanced education was opposed by the colons. Colons were the French people who survived in Vietnam. They worried that if Vietnamese are equipped with advanced French education, they may dissipate their jobs in the region.

The Vietnamese aristocracy was inspired by Chinese culture and to reduce the Chinese leadership in the society, the French set up several French schools for the Vietnamese.

The Tonkin Free School was originated in 1907 to grant not only European education but also to acquire and develop the Western fashion of dressing cloths.

Therefore, schools performed an extraordinary position for competing for legislative and social battles. Fighting against the French culture imbibed a larger fight upon colonial rule and sovereignty of Vietnam.
