The Marathas were the Supreme power in the Indian sub-continent who posed threat to the complete control of the British Rule.

The British East India Company faced the Marathas in three wars, known as Anglo-Maratha Wars, which continued for four decades.

It was finally after the third war that on June 3, 1818, east India Company gained complete control over the Maratha rule.
