They forced the farmers to grow indigo in half of their land and and they have to give the grown indigo as tax.Due to this most of the farmers suicide and when farmers tried to explain the British that some farm lands are not suitable for cultivation of indigo they threatened to kill them.

in that period Indigo was a plant from which a blue pigment was produced this blue pigment was used to give Shine on cotton clothes during that time on cotton clothes. in European countries are in great demand and thus Indigo was also in demand So indian farmers hesitate to grow Indigo because Indian farmars were forced by the Britishers to grow only indigo on the soil.
