The British exploited the forest resources of India for their development in the following ways :
1. Firstly the British cleared the forests in order to expand the cultivation of commercial crops like jute, indigo, cotton, sugar etc which had a great demand in Europe.
2. The food grains also had a great demand in Europe as these food grains were used to feed the Urban industrial workers.
3. The British also exploited the forests to produce raw materials for Industries in England.
4. The British also used to wood to run locomotives and in railway sleepers. The railways extensively drained India and prospered British.
