The British forced the cultivators of India to grow cash crops like indigo and opium. The ones who refused were sentenced to prison. The British also hurled abuse and humiliated the ones who refused to grow cash crops. In fact, this resulted in a famine, as food crops were grown very less and cash crops, in huge amount..
