how did the child feels as he and his parents neared the village ?why ?

The lost child finds hope when an old man comes to his rescue. When they come near the village, the child is in confused state of mind because he could see many other footpaths which he hadn't seen before. He wonders if he has reached some other village where he would not find his home and his parents
