● Mahatma Gandhi decided to send a letter to load a pin stating 11 demands. These demand where from different classes of the population. The idea was to make these demands wide ranging so that old peoples good identify with it.

● The most thrilling of the demands of the abolition of salt tax. Salt was say something that is consumed by the both rich and poor alike. Through this demand Mahatma Gandhi tried to enclose the most oppressive face of the British.

● The letter stated that if the demands were not fulfilled. The Congress would start a civil disobedience movement. Lord Irwin was and unwilling to negotiate and hence Mahatma Gandhi started his famous salt march accompanied by his 78 trusted volunteers

● On April 6th reached Dandi and ceremonially violated the law by boiling sea water. This marked the beginning of the civil disobedience movement throughout the country.

● As thre civil disobedience movement spread people began discarding foreign goods and using Indian ones only.
