colonial forest laws effected the life of common people very much. The British banned shifting cultivation because when forests were burnt for shifting cultivation the valuable timber was lost and it became difficult for the Britishers to collect revenue when shifting cultivation was practiced, so they banned this process, which directly effected the life of people and their cultivation of other food products. The British wanted to use those forests for other purposes and for building railways as well, so they declared these forests as Reserved forests and people were not allowed to practice Swidden cultivation/shifting cultivation in these forests.
