During 1740–1750 Marathas were at their peak ! They were the strongest Empire in India with their boundaries from Peshawar till the deccan !
Marathas took 1 lakh Maratha Pilgrims to north along with their army in Panipat .The sudden defeat of Marathas collapsed the Maratha Empire ,it was a huge loss for the Maratha ,it took next 20 years for Marathas to regain their territories back ! …
Since there was no Strong Power left in India and Marathas under a conferedacy not under a Emperor helped Britishers a lot .
What caused the downfall of Mughals .!??
The quarel among the later Mughal emperors for throne , Nizam UK Mulk revolted and created Nizamshahi in Deccan , Awadh under Nawabs ,Bengal was also divided by Nawabs of Bangla . The rise of Marathas ,Bats and Sikhs who revolted against Mughals and took away their territories . Delhi was captured by Marathas … This led to their downfall .
Also Nadir shah and Abdali's raid in North India also weakened the Mughals badly !!
