Constituent Assembly was orginally supposed to have 389 members, 296 seats for British India and 93 seats for princely states. After partition, due to the withdrawl of Muslim League from the Constituent Assembly, the total membership dropped to 299. Of these, 70 from princely states and 229 from Indian provinces (former British provinces).
