The deer drank milk from the gourd by the following way :  

At first that deer sucked milk from Jody's milk  soaked fingers. It sucked Jody's fingers very greedily. Then ,Jody put  his fingers in the milk. The deer followed them and its mouth reached the level of the milk in the gourd. It sucked and soon it was content.
