The First World War had a devastating effect on the industrial sector of Tsarist Russia.
The immense human loss and the drain on treasury resulted in very few income opportunities for the Russian peasants as agriculture was already stagnant.
The alternative given by the Socialists led by Lenin held much promise as it led to collectivisation of land and state ownership of industry which would ensure equality among women and men.
The people became increasingly disillusioned with the monarchy and their wastage of money and wealth and the situation was ripe for revolution.
