In the year 1952, the Americans tested its first hydrogen bomb, and then it was the turn of Soviet Union to test its own hydrogen bomb in 1953.The race had already started by then.

In the year 1961, the Soviets pulled up another surprise, when it tested explosives worth 60 million tons of TNT.

As you can see, the arms race had begun, and before we could imagine any further, by 1980 the two giants US and USSR were pumping millions to make the race even more deadly.
