Christopher Columbus accidentally 'discovered' a vast continent, which later came to be known as America. Here, by using America we refer to the North and South America along with the Caribbean.

Food:

  • Many of the common foods we know now such as chilies, sweet potatoes, potatoes, maize, tomatoes, soya, groundnuts were introduced to Europe and Asia after the discovery of America.
  • In fact, many of our foods came from America's original inhabitants, the American Indians.

Trade

  • In the 16th century the European sailors found a route to Asia and crossed the western ocean to America.
  • Earlier, the Indian ocean used to bustle with trades due to which India and China were crucial points in the networks of trade.
