Answer:
When Alivardi Khan died in 1756, his son Siraj-ud-Daulah ascended the throne. Since the beginning, the Company wanted to establish its rule on Bengal. The Company was keen to install a puppet ruler at the throne. When the infuriated Nawab got to know about this, he told the Company to stay out of his state’s affairs. He also ordered the Company to stop their fortifications, and pay the revenues. After negotiations failed, the Nawab marched towards the English factory at Kassimbazaar with 30,000 soldiers, captured the officials, locked the warehouse, disarmed all Englishmen and blockaded their ships. Then he marched to Calcutta to establish his rule. When the Company officials got to know about the fall of the factory, they sent Robert Clive and his forces to secure the capital. At the end in 1757, the Battle of Plassey took place in which the Company crushed the Nawab and his forces. A major reason of Clive’s victory was that one of Siraj-ud-Daulah’s commanders, Mir Jafar, never fought the war because Robert had assured him that he would be made Nawab after Siraj-ud-Daulah would be killed.
