The Caliphs of Abbasid were descendants of one of the uncles of Prophet Muhammad. The Abbasid caliphate (750 – 1258 AD) was the third of Islamic caliphates, after Prophet Muhammad.

The Abbasid rulers depended on bureaucrats from Persia, to govern territories and administer other functions of the kingdom. Non-Arab Muslims were also, increasingly included in the community. It resulted in a change in the ethnic character of the people, with Persian and other customs mingling with the original Arab customs. But this was considered the Golden Age as the Caliphate became a centre for learning, culture and philosophy.
