During 1918-19 and 1920-21, crops failed in many parts of India which led to the food shortages. The nationalist leaders had taken advantage of this situation to encourage the people against the colonial rulers. So, in this way the First World War helped in the growth of the National Movement in India.

As the deal was that if India will help England in war India would be free but after the war was over England step back from it this enraged Indians the feeling of nationalism
