On November 19, 1794, The representatives of US and Great Britain signed the Jay's treaty(named after John Ray) for maintaining peace between two nations.

It was made to settle the problem between the two nations which was unsettled since the independence of America .

To the French the signing of the treaty seemed to violate the previous treaties and hence the French were upset.
