• Gandhiji started the Dandi march on 12 march 1930 with his 80 volunteers from Sabarmati ashram to Dandi,a village in the coast of Gujarat.On reaching Dandi Gandhiji broke the Salt law.
• At that time salt was the monopoly of the British. Only the British could manufacture and sell salt. When the news spread across the country, many people started breaking law.
• The government tried to suppress the movement by arresting the prominent leaders of the Congress party . Gandhiji was arrested on 4th may 1930.
