How did the grandmother see off the author at the railway station when he had to go abroad for study?

The grandmother though was upset but accepted her seclusion with resignation. She continued chanting the beads of her rosary even when she hugged the author. She kissed him on his forehead and author thought that it was the last physical contact between them.
