A great event had taken place in 1857 in India. Generally two views are given regarding the origin and meaning of the Indian Mutiny : 1. that it was a mere military rising and 2. that it was a widespread conspiracy carefully organized for the overthrow of the British power

After the 1857 revolt the british became suspicious of the indians and kept themselves confined to their own clubs and cafes and offices,where Indians were not allowed to enter.
They also thought that the Indians could again raise up a revolt and try to overthrow them n so they started maintaining distance with the Indians.
