Many Germans were mad about the tough restrictions placed on their country after WW1. Hitler preached a new era that would rebuild Germany and it's power. Since the country was in a terrible depression, many were willing to follow him to make their country strong again.

On the other hand, Hitler eliminated all other political parties and his rule was not unlike a dictatorship. Many were forced to follow him to escape prosecution.
