HERE'S THE ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR !!!

- Influence Of colonial life on Pastoralist -
__________
First of all we need to know about the life of Pastoralists during colonial times : -

- DURING COLONIAL TIMES -

➡ During the colonial rule the life of poa total people dramatically changed.

➡ The grazing grounds shrank.

➡ Their revenue increased.

➡ Their movement was regulated by the English British Rulers.

➡ As we know that revenue was one of the main source of income for the Britishers so, to increase the land revenue they started transforming pastoral land into productive land.

➡ Certain Waste - Land rules were passed by the Britishers to transform non - productive land into productive land which was not good for the Pastoralists as their land shrieked.

➡ Certain forests were passed accoring to which the forests were also divided into 2 different types : -

➡ -) Reserved Forests - No Pastoralist was allowed access to these forests.

➡ -) Protected Forests - Limited access to Pastoralists by paying money.

➡ Pastoralists were now restricted from entering forests. Forests were the most valuable resource for the Pastoralists as they provided pasture for their livestock.

➡ As it was easy to rule a settled population so the British Officials restricted their movement.

➡ Colonial govt. imposed taxes on every possible source. They imposed taxes on salt, land, trade etc.

➡ Each Pastoralist was given a pass, to enter a forest firstly, they have to pay tax and then were allowed to access the forest for a limited time.

➡ Due to the policies of Colonial government many Pastoralists settled and were then engaged in agriculture or other primary activities.

➡ - How Did they cope with changes bought by the Britishers? -

➡ Some of them reduced the number of cattle in their herds because their was not enough pasture available for them.

➡ They started discovering new pasture grounds as their movement to old grazing ground was restricted.

➡ As they couldn't cross the international boundaries (India and Pakistan) sheep herders like Raikas started searching new pasture land.

➡ After some time some richer Pastoralists buyed land and were later engaged in agriculture. Other took money from money lenders and were unable to pay it back and lost their cattle and later became labourers.

➡ Yet, Pastoralists not only survive in certain regions but their numbers are also increasing.

➡ These changes were not only faced by Indian Pastoral Communities but were also faced by Pastoralists of countries like Africa etc.
