The intruder had made an elaborate plan to take up the identity of Gerard. He was wanted by police for murdering a cop. He had been studying almost every aspect of Gerard and incorporating it. He had studied his habits, life-style, his work, his dressing style, etc. He had made all preparations to resemble Gerard. His purpose was to kill Gerard and take his identity. He then intended to dispose of his body and live as Gerard. He was learning to speak like Gerard. However, Gerard outsmarted the intruder and locked him up in a room. Gerard turned out to be far cleverer than his adversary.

It was not an overnight process for the intruder.

He kept a watch on Gerrard and before finally murdering him he asked him some questions to know more about him.

He collected all information about his neighbors, his habit if talking, behaving, etc.

Somehow by imitating and somehow by his strong guessing power the intruder stared preparing himself to fake the identity of Gerrard.
