In the 17th century many political clubs were formed in France. One of the famous club among them was that of jacobins. It was named after a convent of st. jacob in paris. The leader of jacobin club was Maximilian Robespierre who followed the policy of severe control and punishment. On the morning of August 10 jacobins stormed the palace of Tuileries, massacred the king's guard and imprisoned the royal family. Louis 16 was sentensed to death on the charge of treason. Now Robespierre came into power and the reign of terror (1793-1794) begins.
