1. in 1885, the m assailand was cut into half with an international boundary between German tanganiyika and British Kenya. thus the massa is were pushed to arid lands with little forage
2. most of the grazing land were converted to game reserves .they were not allowed to access to these reserves.

colonial government put restrictions on the movement of the pastoralists. The use of Forest was not allowed for pastoralists. the colonial government encourage cultivation hence the grazing Lands were used for agricultural activities
