The Maharaja had to satisfy and reward the high ranking British administrators. In order to retain his kingdom, he presented samples of expensive diamond rings of different designs to the good lady that was brought from a silver jeweler in Calcutta. The Maharaja sent all the fifty rings to the British official good lady to appease her. At the same time, all of the fifty rings worth three lakh rupees were accepted by the good lady. Therefore, it cost him three lakh rupees to retain his kingdom.
