The appearance of the ghost in front of the narrator has been very well described with a touch of humour by the writer. The narrator seems to be juxtaposed amidst the real and the supernatural. He fails to recognise Helen as a ghost and is more astonished when she says that she often comes and helps people in writing ghost stories. He swallows and keeps gaping at the unbelievable happenings. He is awestruck and his power seems to rest in the hands of Helen.
