the nathpanthis, yogis and siddhas among the other groups believed in the renunciation and taught the path to salvation was through meditation and the formless ultimate reality and the oneness of the human soul with it. they preached intense training of the mind, meditation and breathing exercises. these groups were popular among the 'lower' castes and their criticism for the common vedic religion and created a base for a new religion to become a common power in the north.
