Following WWII, Germany and Berlin were divided between four allied countries: the U.S., Britain, France, and U.S.S.R (Russia). The first three decided to be generous and let their territories “merge” but the Soviet Union didn’t want to do that. It was then that the Soviet Union began to emerge as a threat, causing the other allies, mainly the U.S. to build up. U.S.S.R. felt threatened, so they built up. Then the U.S. built up. Then the Soviet Union. Basically they were just trying to out-do one another.
