Answer:

The peddler proved his host, the Ironmaster wrong. At the church it was announced that a peddler had stolen 30 kroner of the old crofter. The Ironmaster became worried as the peddler was staying at his home. He hurried home fearing by the time he would reach home, the peddler would have stolen many things from his house and escaped.

However, when he reached home and asked his valet if the peddler had gone and taken anything with him, he was surprised to know that the peddler had gone empty handed. He had rather left a gift for Miss Edla behind and a letter.

When Edla opened the gift, she found a rattrap in it. Inside the rattrap were a letter and thirty kroner. In the letter he had thanked Edla for treating him with respect; and thirty kroner were to be returned to the old crofter.

This really surprised the host.
