immediately after hitting the snake, the poet regretted. He called his act vulgar and mean. He despised himself and the voices of human education that lured him into hitting the snake. He felt like the mariner who killed the albatross and wished that the snake would come back. The snake seemed to him like a king with whom he missed a chance of getting introduced and so, he wanted to make amends for his mistake.
