The poet initially describes that the ship had a wonderful journey. The weather was good and favorable. But when they reached the Equator, a strong and powerful storm carried them towards the land of snow and mist.
It is described that there were ice bergs upto the height of their mast of the ship. There was ice everywhere but not a single life was found anywhere. The sailors and the ancient mariner saw no beast nor any bird.
It was as if there did not exist a thing. There was silence and mist everywhere. All the sailors felt very scared prayed to God to help them come out of this situation.
