After the Revolt of 1857 the position of Governor general changed to Viceroy .

After the Revolt by the queens proclamation she declared that she will leave a representative which will represent the queen and it was name as Viceroy .

After this the first Viceroy of India became Lord Canning and also he was the last governor general.
