Tribal chiefs lost all their authority and became mere agents of the British . They had to appease thier British masters as well as control their own people . They also had to follow the laws made by British & pay them tributes . This infuriated the tribals chiefs

The tribal chiefs were important people they enjoyed economic power and had the right to administer and control their territory under the British rule the function and power of tribal chiefs change to a great extent.
