The Rashtrakutas in the Deccan were the subordinate to the Chalukyas of Karnataka. It was during the mid-18th century when Dantidurga, a Rashtrakuta chief, overthrew his Chalukya overlord and performed a ritual called 'Hiranya-garbha' with the help of Brahmanas.
