Answers
Answer:
Two religious movements rised in the medieval India, the Bhakti Movement and the Sufi Movement. The term Bhakti has been derived from the sanskrit bhaj, meaning devotion to God. There were many factors that gave rise to Bhakti movement. People were no longer satisfied with their religion as it became too ritualistic and dogmatic. The caste system became more rigid and alienated the lower castes from the social order. People were in search of a religion that could satisfy their emotions and reasons. Shankaracharya, Ramanuja, Madhavcharya, Chaitanya, Kabir, Guru Nanak, etc. were some of the Bhakti saints. The word Sufi is derived from the latin word suf, meaning ragged woolen clothes. The Sufi movement was started by Islamic communities. The khanqahs played an important role in development of the Sufi Movement. Khwaja Muinuddin Chisthi, Shaikh Salim Chisthi, Baba Farid, etc. were some of the Sufi saints.
