As we know that mountains are not walls without ups and downs. The ups are called peaks while dpwns are called valleys. A river starts from a mountain. In snowy mountains, the snow on the mountains gets melted by heat. As a result, it melts down and flows slowly as ice. But as it moves down, the temperature increases and the glacier or moving ice melts and forms rivers. The rivers don't have open areas in mountains and thus, have to travel through the gaps between them- the valleys

Explanation:

As they entered the valley, the river became wide and mostly clogged with ice. It appeared brilliant white and glinting in the sunshine.
