Cricket has a rural origin. The length of the test match which went for days explains the rural connection. The cricket matches had no time limit. The game continued for long. The game went on for as long as it took to bowl out a side twice.
The village life was very slow and cricket's rule were made before the Industrial Revolution, so there was no fixed time duration for a match. There was also a great deal of vagueness about the size of the cricket ground, since cricket was originally played on country commons which was unfenced land and public property. the size of the commons also varied from one village to the other. So, there were no designated boundaries or boundary hit. When the ball went into the crowd , the crowd cleared a way for the fieldsman to retrieve it.
