Ryotwari settlement gave rise to the landlordism because of the following reason-

1. In the system the Zamindars and the Lambardars didn’t collect the land revenue but revenue was taken directly from the ryots.

2. It made the ryots or the cultivators landlords as the revenue was given directly not via any medium.

In the ryotwari areas the land revenue was fixed at very high rate for 20 to 30 years.

So as the price rose the landlords employed more tenants and received the rents from them.

Soon the ryotwari areas turned into landlords.

The tenants paid the rent that was 3 to 7times more than land revenue.

As a result the practices of exploiting the poor peasants rose and the landlords also lost the interest of investing in lands to improve agriculture.

In this way the ryotwari system gave rise to landlordism.
