Salt satyagrah became an effective tool as it was against the rule(law) of British and it was started by gandhi Ji followed by 78 people. They marched from his ashram to dandi. And made salt from boiling the sea water

The salt march was an effective symbol of resistance because it was done in revolt against a commodity-"Salt" ; which was used by the rich and the poor alike. The tax on salt and monopoly over its production was a severely oppressive administrative move. One of the other reason was Gandhiji met a large number of commoners during the march and taught them the meaning of swaraj and non-violence. and hence Gandhiji set forth an example to the whole nation of how the oppressor could be confronted in a non-violent manner.
-Hope this helps :))
