The British government passed the infamous Rowlatt Act which gave enormous powers to the police to arrest any person without any reason whatsoever. The purpose of the Act was to curb the growing nationalist upsurge in the country. Gandhi called upon the people to do Satyagraha against such oppressive "Act".

the anti rowlett satyagraha act was started by MAHATMA Gandhi ji which was against the rowlett act started in 1919 , for the exclusion of freedom of press and detention without trial set up a satyagraha sabha on 24th February 1919 at bombay ( present mumbai ).

the rowlett act empowered the britisher regarding the suspension of the right hapbeus corps which led to the rise of nationalism .
