India made progress in the field of education, science and culture during Gupta period as Guptas had many excellent scholars. Aryabhatta was one of the great

Mathematician, he made many discoveries about Mathematics. He discovered the rule for finding the area of triangle. He calculated the exact value of Pi. The credit for development of trigonometry actually go to him.He was acquainted with the decimal system and use of 'zero'.All these developments about Maths made a great change in improving Guptas dynasty too. Some more Gupta scholars like Varahamihira, Vishnu Sharma etc. affect mathematics by doing various experiments.

I think these are

They "invented" zero, or at least they were among the first to use a symbol to represent nothing. This was a philosophically contentious idea, especially in Europe, that you could have a symbol that represented the absence of something, much like the ancient Greeks discovered but rejected negative numbers. You could find some resistance to both concepts in Europe as late as the 17th century, although by that point mathematicians were comfortable using both.

Also, on a more technical note, they invented a tabular algorithm for calculating the square roots of large numbers
