when the thief stole the money , he went to a railway station and it was raining and the notes became wet ,. As he was feeling guilty he went back and kept the money under anil's pillow . as it was only early morning the notes wouldn't have been dried up that fast . When anil woke up he took the money and gave it to the thief for serving anil . When he hold the the money in his hand the notes were still wet . This is how he knew that anil knew that the money was stolen .
