In the end of the story the thief basically wins Anils' heart. He does so because he had earlier in the story stolen from Anil. But he didnt run away with the money and because Anil could sense and feel that he had created a difference in this man by making him better, thats when the theif won Anils' heart

At first the thief was generally introduced to Anil in an odd way there he showed him that he could be trusted and so Anil started trusting the theif. In the end of the story the thief basically wins Anils' heart. He does so because he had earlier in the story stolen from Anil.
