Prawn trawls can be towed in multiples of two, three or four nets, with long arms (or booms) extending out from each side of the boat to allow the nets to fully open. Prawn trawl nets use ground chain for weight so it skims the seabed and encourages prawns living on the sea floor up into the trawl mouth.

Trawling is a type of fishing or catching the aquatic animals in the net through the use of boats or large ships.

The trawler owner want to fish for prawns in following ways:-

  • They use the method of Bottom trawling where the net is attached to a large ship underwent into the water and catch all the fishes and other aquatic animals.
  • Shallow water hunting is also used to catch the Prawns easily in the net. They are intended to live largely in the shallow water and with bays or tide pools.
  • Tides need to be followed- When tides came in the ocean or in seas, all the marine animals upwell and come into one side due to force exerted by the tides. This also facilitates in fishing of prawns.
  • Prawns are easily found in the areas where the seaweeds are present. They can be easy prey of the trawlers and catched quickly.
