The most accepted theory is " The Big Bang theory" first proposed by Georges Lemaître.

About 10 billion years ago, there was a very small space with intense pressure inside. It could not hold that much of pressure and therefore it burst open with a' bang' which is known as the "big bang" After the big bang the space began to expand, atoms and molecules were formed and later planets and galaxies. This expanding space is what we call as "universe".
